This month, we’re sharing 111 pieces of Family Service Association’s history to celebrate our 111th birthday! Did you know that Family Service Association used to be called Associated Charities? Or that Associated Charities started a local Dental Clinic for school children who otherwise couldn’t afford or access dental care? During the 1922-1923 school year, the dental clinic provided filings and extractions to 419 school children! Come see our birthday celebration table at LARAC on August 14 and 15 to hear more stories about our organization’s history.
During July, we had a great turnout for Outdoor Fridays. Over 50 families received items including household goods, clothing, and fresh produce. Due to our Feet First program, we will only hold two Outdoor Friday events in August, but we plan to resume the regular weekly schedule in September. Feet First provides new school shoes to eligible children attending school in the fall. We will be taking applications by phone the week of August 16 – August 20. Phones may be busy on our starting day. Please be patient and keep trying.
